Program Spotlight: Robotics Team

During our Program Spotlight portion of our February Board Meeting, our robotics team presented information about their robotics program, competitions, and grants they have received.

Mr. Daniel Waller and Mr. Jim Kjar are the sponsors of this team. The students have a Principles of Technology class during the 7th hour where they get to use class time to work on the project. This project has many layers. They have a construction crew, a CAD crew, a programming crew, and a business crew. To be successful, the students cannot focus and complete all the tasks during class time. There are multiple nights that they have worked after school to get their robot ready for competition.

They have two competitions coming up in March. Their first competition will be March 9th-11th in St. Louis. The second competition will be in Sedalia on March 23rd-25th. They hope to compete at a level that allows them to qualify for World Championships in Houston, Texas on April 19th-22nd.

Mr. Waller and Mr. Kjar have worked hard to get grants to help pay for the team’s entry fees. They have received $5000 from NASA grant and $5000 from Boeing scholarship.

We are very excited to offer this program to our students and are excited to see what our students can do at the competitions.
