excessive heat warning

Warsaw R-IX Response to Excessive Heat Warning

With the excessive heat warnings for this week, please note the following:

  • A/C: All of the classrooms at the district have A/C and are working. For rooms that might be struggling to keep up, we have added some additional portable units.

  • Water Bottles: All students are encouraged to bring water bottles to and from school. We have bottle filling stations throughout the buildings for students to be able to refill them.

  • Additional Water Bottles: We will have water bottles in a cooler on each bus starting this afternoon and throughout the excessive heat warning.

  • Transportation: Most of our buses are not air conditioned, but we do have a few that have it. We are encouraging students to stay hydrated on the bus. Parents: We encourage you to pick up your children in the afternoon if possible. If you need a later pick up time during this excessive heat warning, then please contact the office at your school building.

  • Outdoor recess: It is likely that outdoor recess or other outdoor activities will be limited.

  • Student Athletics and Activities: Practice times and locations have been modified in response to the heat as well.

What you can do to help at home:

  • Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! The best way to beat the heat is to stay hydrated. Encourage your child to stay hydrated throughout the day, even when they aren’t outside or on the school bus.

  • Dress for the weather. Be sure your child is wearing lightweight fabrics to keep the air around their body flowing and light colors that absorb less heat.

We will continue to monitor the heat. According to the information received from the National Weather Service this morning, yesterday was the hottest day for us. The Heat Index and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature should start decreasing throughout the week. It is still going to be hot, so it is still extremely important to hydrate!
